One of the best teams in the MLB and favorite to win the World Series this year according to some Sportsbook odds are the New York Yankees. They will face one of the worst record in the American League; the Kansas City Royals who started with a negative record. Now playing without Jason Giambi for a couple of games who joined Hideki Matsui and Gary Sheffield to the list of injuries; Joe Torre has lined-up Cabrera Cairo and Crosby who have done a good job replacing the Starters. OF Bubba Crosby strained his right hamstring running to first base after a fifth-inning single Thursday. He is questionable for next week games. RHP Shawn Chacon (left leg bruise) was examined by doctors Thursday and may not start next week either. RHP Aaron Small is being lined up to replace him. OF Gary Sheffield (left wrist) will have an MRI in the next few days to gauge how much improvement he has made. He remains a week or more from being activated and off the disabled list. 1st B Jason Giambi got on base twice Thursday but was hitless. This is the second of his last 23; a slump that has dropped his batting average to .266. OF Kevin Reese, whom the Yankees called up from Triple-A Columbus on May 12, finally got in a game but he was 0-for-2 RHP Runelvys Hern??ndez has allowed 16 runs in 13 innings in his past three starts. He is 0-3 with an 8.69 ERA in four May starts. Hern??ndez threw just 56 pitches Thursday before being lifted due to cramps under his armpit. He faced 21 batters and 11 reached base -- seven hits, three walks and a hit batter. RHP Ambiorix Burgos worked two scoreless innings giving up a hit in his first outing since blowing back-to-back save chances and losing his closer's job. DH Justin Huber made just his third start in 14 games since being promoted from Triple-A Omaha. He went 0-for-3 and struck out twice. Huber could be sent back to the minors this weekend if OF Shane Costa is ready to come off the disabled list. |
