Onan Generators

Onan offers a huge assortment of generators for many different applications such as RV, marine, commercial, home stand-by, and portables. Since 1920, they have been known for quality, performance, service and value. Their portable generators are brand-named HomeSite Power and come in both 6500-watt and 2400-watt capacity. Onan emphasizes the ease of use of their generators, although truthfully, operating any generator is not exactly rocket science. You pretty much just determine your load, start up the generator, and plug in the appliance. Onan does have a 24/7 toll-free line to answer questions about where to find their products and how to operate them safely.

Onan also offers a home standby system with two components. An automatic transfer panel senses when your power goes out and transfers load to the generator immediately after the outage begins. The generator itself is the second component, providing power to your home until the power company is able to restore your service. A battery charger in the transfer panel keeps the generators starting battery charged so it is ready to use.

When voltage through the transfer panel contactors falls below 85% of what is expected for longer than 3 seconds, the generator starts itself and after an additional 3 seconds, the homes load is transferred to the generator. This entire sequence is very quick, leaving you and your family in the dark for an average of only 10 seconds. When the utility company puts you back into service which remains stable for at least 5 minutes, the transfer panel control switches the load back to the utility and the generator goes off-line. After a 5-minute cool-down period, the generator puts itself back in standby mode automatically.
